This year's Treasure Hunt, in which we will follow the black monolith and the crew of the Discovery from prehistoric times to the moons of Jupiter, will be on Saturday, March 10, 2001, starting around 12:30pm (please do not arrive before 12:15 unless you are a puzzle composer) at the home of Dave and Shari Metcalf.
As in recent years, there is a limit of 33 participants (family members who show up only to socialize don't count). If you took part or test-solved last year or were a frequent participant in previous years, you are guaranteed a spot provided you RSVP by Julian's birthday, February 14; others will be admitted based on space available. (Last year, everyone who wanted to come was able to.) If you're not sure whether you can come, please let me know and I'll hold a tentative spot for you. If you have RSVPed and decide not to come, please let me know as soon as possible so I can let someone else come. The Hunt's web site will include a list of attendees (as well as much additional material not in this e-mail); please let me know whether if it's not okay to include a link to your e-mail address on this list (or if there is an alternate link you'd rather have me use).
If you are a new participant, Cally Perry has volunteered to answer any questions you might have about the Hunt and can help you find a buddy to help make the event more friendly. If you are inviting a new participant, encourage them to get on the e-mail list so they receive followup mailings.
Given the mounds of food devoured at previous Hunts, it would seem that puzzle solving is an excellent form of calorie burning. Please bring a dinner item (unless you plan to leave early) and a snack item (so people don't eat your dinner item ahead of time). Paul Dworkin will be acting as food coordinator. Please check what other people are bringing and tell him about your contributions so we can avoid the bread festival that we had at a previous potluck. No meat, please.
There are some additional things which you may find useful and are encouraged to bring:
